Laura was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed surgery.  Dr. Caragacianu gave her an option to have oncoplastic surgery; a procedure performed at the time of a lumpectomy to sculpt and restore the normal appearance of the treated breast. Read Laura's story.


Patients should call to pre-register up to two weeks in advance for any scheduled surgery and out-patient appointment including most diagnostic tests, lab work and pre-operative testing. This eliminates the need to wait for an admissions representative upon arrival. Patients can go directly to their point of service. Admissions representatives are available to take calls from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

At Milford Regional we have a highly experienced Breast Center team that includes medical professionals in diagnostic imaging, pathology, surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, physical therapy and nursing. The mission of The Breast Center is to unify these resources under the guidance of a Medical Director to ensure patients receive the very highest standards of care.

Through our collaboration with Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center located on our campus, the Breast Center team meets regularly to actively engage in each patient's case, putting best practices in place to coordinate care and bring each patient back to breast health. This thorough team effort results in more expedient diagnosis and treatment as well as greater patient comfort and confidence.

Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center offers world-class medical oncology and radiation therapy right on our campus. Together, the team's goal is to provide breast patients with the most comprehensive, streamlined care available.

Personalized Breast Care

The number one priority for The Breast Center is a uniquely personal commitment to each patient. Diana Caragacianu, MD is the Medical Director of The Breast Center. Under her leadership, patients at Milford Regional’s nationally accredited Breast Center can expect an individualized, multi-disciplinary team approach for all screening, diagnostic, high-risk evaluation and cancer treatment needs and, when necessary, a seamless collaboration with Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center at Milford Regional.

Diana Caragacianu Breast SurgeonDiana Caragacianu, MD, FACS’s approach to breast health has always been to build relationships with her patients and earn their trust. She is passionate about partnering with her patients, sharing her expertise and knowledge to help them proactively take part in deciding what is best for them. Because of this, Dr. Caragacianu’s glowing reputation as an advocate for patients precedes her arrival at Milford Regional as does her commanding knowledge of breast and endocrine health.

Dr. Caragacianu is not only a respected breast and endocrine surgeon from the prestigious Georgetown University Hospital, she is a leader in high-risk screening and genetics. Her advanced training includes fellowships in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute and breast surgery at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School. She further enhanced her skills with specialized international training in intraoperative radiation for breast cancer and oncoplastic surgery.

Patient Navigator Tracy Kuck, MS, PA-C

One of the key players at the Breast Center is our Patient Navigator, Tracy Kuck, who serves as a continuous liaison between the patients and all of the Breast Center services. She is also the point of contact for all of the providers and navigates each patient through their entire experience at the Breast Center.

Tracy Kuck, Physician Asst. and Nurse NavigatorTracy Ann Kuck, MS, PA-C is a Surgical Physician Assistant and Patient Navigator. She grew up in Mamaroneck, New York. Tracy attended Colgate University for her undergraduate studies, and received a Master of Science in Applied Anatomy and Physiology from Boston University. She completed her PA training at Yale University through the Physician Associate Program. Tracy has been in the Boston area for more than 35 years, and spent over 20 years as a Surgical Physician Assistant at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, MA.

Tracy has now been at the Breast Center at Milford Regional for almost 3 years where she helps coordinate care with the patient’s medical doctors, surgeon, our Multidisciplinary Breast Care Team and Medical and Radiation Oncologists from Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center located across the street. She understands the intricacies of breast cancer care and enjoys supporting and guiding patients through an emotional and stressful time.

Monique Burchard, nurse practitioner at the Breast CenterNurse Practitioner Monique S. Burchard, MSN, FNP-BC

Monique S. Burchard, MSN, FNP-BC is a family nurse practitioner and runs the High Risk Program at The Breast Center. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University. Monique is passionate about women’s health and education and wants patients to feel comfortable coming to her with any type of breast concern. She treats patients with elevated risk of developing breast cancer, benign breast disease and follows breast cancer patients in the months after surgery.

With a focus on prevention and early detection, Monique can facilitate enhanced screening, diagnostic testing, genetic testing, and institute risk reduction strategies individualized for each patient. As a member of the multidisciplinary Milford Regional Breast Care Team of experts, Monique will ensure that each patient receives evidence-based care delivered in a respectful and compassionate manner.

*The Breast Center at Milford Regional Medical Center received a full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Accreditation is only given to those centers that have committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. A breast center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
