Physical Therapy (PT)

Physical therapy is designed to help patients develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout their life. Whether your movement and/or function is threatened by age, injury, disease or environmental factors, you can count on our physical therapists to provide personalized treatment that is both effective and compassionate. We offer physical therapy at all three locations; Milford, Franklin and Northbridge, MA.

Rehab and sports medicine manager working with patient on equipmentIt doesn’t matter how young or old you are because our physical therapists serve the orthopedic and neurological needs of all age groups. Plus, you’ll come to know your physical therapist well and visa versa because you’ll be cared for by the same physical therapist throughout your treatment!

Our services are also preventive, providing education and guidance before rather than after an injury. We give special attention to the prevention of injuries at home and in the workplace. This proactive care reduces the risk of sustaining future injuries and possible impairments. Upon entering our program, all patients (regardless of diagnosis) are screened for their risk of falling. We also perform wheelchair evaluations.

Our affiliation with both a world-class medical center and cancer center allow us to provide the following special services…

Breast Cancer/Lymphedema

Pre-operative and post-operative treatment/screenings. We are one of the few in the area that provides lymphatic therapy by certified therapists which includes compression, exercise and manual lymphatic drainage. We currently have 4 certified lymphedema therapists on our physical therapy staff to meet each patient’s individual needs. Read a story about a patient who was successfully treated for lymphedema.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling (DN) is a skilled technique performed by a physical therapist using thin filiform needles to penetrate the skin and/or underlying tissues to affect change in body structures and functions for the evaluation and management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions, pain, movement impairments, and disability. DN is considered dry compared to wet needling because nothing is being injected into the body. Positive effects of DN include increased blood flow to the area, flexibility, range of motion, restored function and reduced pain. Read a story about a patient who was treated with dry needling.

Graston Technique®

Our physical therapists are specially trained in the Graston Technique; a relatively new treatment for soft tissue injuries. This procedure helps to detect and treat areas of scar tissue and adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments that can reduce range of motion and cause pain. It is used to treat many different types of injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, joint sprain, muscle strain, lower back pain, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and more.

The benefit of the Graston Technique® is not only the detection of the fibrous tissue, but the speed with which patients recover. Most patients have a positive response within two or three treatments. It decreases overall time of treatment, reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication and it can resolve some chronic conditions thought to be permanent. Read a patient story about the Graston Technique®.

Neurological Disorders

Therapists with advanced course work provide a multi-disciplinary, (PT, OT, Speech) comprehensive treatment for patients with a variety of neurological disorders. Milford Regional neurological clinicians keep us in tune with the patient’s medical management strategies.
