Event Recorder
An event recorder is a monitor that records your heart's rate and rhythm when you are having symptoms. Your physician can prescribe the monitor to be worn from 14 to 30 days.
The monitor can be worn one of two ways; it is a small device that you can wear as you go about your normal daily routine and activate as you have a symptom, or you can wear it without electrodes, and place it on your chest. When you are having symptoms, you activate the monitor to record it. This device records an electrical recording similar to an EKG tracing.
Getting Ready
- No special preparation is necessary
- Please arrive on time
- A land-line is necessary in order to transmit EKG tracings
What to Expect
EKG pads are placed on your chest. The monitor will be attached via the electrical cable and a sample tracing will be recorded. You will be shown how to transmit the sample tracing to the monitoring company which maintains the event recorders. You will be shown how to clear the memory in the recorder once you have transmitted the strip.
This appointment takes about 20 minutes and you will be able to drive yourself home.
After the Test
You will be able to remove the monitor to shower. You will be able to maintain your normal daily activities. When your monitoring period is complete, you will return the monitor via a Fedex or UPS envelope, which will be provided to you, to the monitoring company.
The monitoring company will send the sample strips and a summary report to your ordering provider. Check with your medical provider to find out when the results will be available to you.
