Personally Speaking
I chose family medicine because I felt a kinship to the doctors of past decades and centuries who cared for whole communities. While practicing family medicine for 13 years, I saw many chronic conditions in older folks that I wish I could have prevented - if only I had been their doctor when they were at the critical adolescent and young adult stage of life. Now I strive to teach 11-29 year olds how to take charge of their own health for life.
I strive to look at the health of the whole person, in the context of their life and community and help them utilize their strengths to improve their mental and physical health. Many people may not know or expect this, but I really like doing small office surgical procedures like atypical mole removals, Nexplanon placements, and stitching up wounds whenever I can.
I am a voracious reader. I also love spending time outside in my yard doing my own landscaping and growing raspberries.
