UMass Memorial - Milford Regional Awards Seven Scholarships to Student Volunteers
2025 awards sponsored by the Auxiliary of Milford Regional and the Perry Memorial Volunteer Scholarship
UMass Memorial - Milford Regional awarded six student volunteers planning to pursue careers in the healthcare field scholarships totaling $4,500. Two students received scholarships from the Auxiliary of Milford Regional and five students received scholarships from the Perry Memorial Volunteer Scholarship program.
Febrounia Gaeid of Milford and Shaurya Patni of Hopkinton were the recipients of $1,000 from the Auxiliary. Gaeid plans to pursue a career as a neurosurgeon, and Patni aspires to become a physician.
“My volunteer experience at Milford Regional taught me that being a physician means caring for the whole person, and it solidified my desire to lead with empathy in every aspect of care,” said Patni.
The Auxiliary serves Milford Regional through programs of education, community service, public relations, and support of volunteer services – along with supporting the hospital through fundraising efforts. Since its founding, the Auxiliary has raised close to $1 million, resulting in state-of-the-art equipment, advanced technology, key renovations, scholarships, expansions in patient care and critical programmatic support.
Mia Cote of Hopedale, Sarah Saad of Milford, Parima Sharma of Hopkinton, Piyusha Majgaunkar of Hopkinton and Gaeid received $500 from the Perry Memorial Volunteer Scholarship program. Cote plans to become an athletic trainer, Saad is pursuing a career in dentistry and Sharma and Majgaunkar are planning careers as physicians.
“My volunteer work at the hospital will stay with me forever. I was ultimately looking to accomplish career goals, but I walked away knowing a whole new community of the most selfless and caring people,” said Cote.
For more than 20 years, Bill and Anne Perry were dedicated volunteers at Milford Regional Medical Center. The Perry’s were known for their commitment to volunteerism and appreciation for education.
Milford Regional volunteer Bob Cole oversees the fundraising for the Perry scholarships. The Perry’s son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca, sit on the Scholarship Review Committee.
“Milford Regional is incredibly thankful to the Auxiliary and the Perry family for understanding how important it is to invest in our local students and their higher education and career goals,” said UMass Memorial – Milford Regional President Edward J. Kelly. “We are so proud to help support the aspirations of those who aim to contribute to the future of the healthcare field.”
