ONCE AGAIN, UMASS  MEMORIAL HEALTH - MILFORD REGIONAL EARNS HIGHEST PATIENT GRADE FOR PATIENT SAFETY FROM LEAPFROG

Newsweek names Milford Regional one of the best hospitals in Massachusetts

Milford, Mass. – For the 13th successive time, UMass Memorial Health - Milford Regional Medical Center received a grade “A” from the Leapfrog Group. The Fall 2024 top mark recognizes Milford Regional’s accomplishment in protecting patients from preventable harm and error while in the hospital.

Since 2018, Milford Regional has consistently received the highest grade from the Leapfrog Group. The bi-annual patient safety grades are presented to hospitals across the country in spring and fall.

Milford Regional is one of only 16 hospitals in Massachusetts to achieve the top grade, as well as the only hospital in Central Massachusetts.

The Leapfrog expert panel uses multiple evidence-based measures of patient safety relating to errors, injuries, accidents and infections to help determine hospitals’ safety grades. Leapfrog then calculates a specific numerical score for all eligible hospitals in the country, which is then converted into one of five letter grades, with “A” representing the best grade.

“I commend all caregivers in our hospital who continually go above and beyond to ensure the safety of each patient we care for,” said UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center President Edward J. Kelly. “Being recognized thirteen consecutive times with a grade “A” is certainly not something we will take for granted as we continue to seek out measures to make certain quality care and a culture of safety are our top priorities.”

A hospital’s grade is meant to provide transparency to the public and assist consumers when making decisions regarding their healthcare.

“These consecutive national recognitions from the Leapfrog Group continue to affirm Milford Regional’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of quality care to our community,” said UMass Memorial Health - Milford Regional Medical Center Interim Chief Operating Officer Bert Thurlo-Walsh, MM, RN, CPHQ.

The list highlights 700 leading hospitals throughout the country and is meant to assist individuals in locating trusted medical facilities within their state.
