News Brief – Cardiac Rehabilitation Works!

heart

If you, or someone you know, have been diagnosed with heart disease, you know this is a major life event. After the initial treatment – by-pass surgery, angioplasty, stent placement and/or medication – physical and emotional adjustments must be made in order to return to a full and active life. This is when cardiac rehabilitation programs come in. And this is why cardiac rehabilitation programs are so important, because the program works! Read more.

This news brief provided by Kathleen Waldron, RN, BC, MSN, program director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Milford Regional.

In fact, the more fun it is, the more likely you’ll stick to an exercise program. So dance, mow the lawn, go bowling, walk, ride a bike or take the stairs instead of the elevator! The point is to get moving and add variety to your workout. Read more.

Until now, patients presenting at Milford Regional with suspected heart complications were sent to other facilities to have catheterization done. With the opening of Milford Regional’s cardiac catheterization lab, patients can remain close to home during that important diagnostic period. Q & A

question mark

Q. My healthcare provider recently ordered a blood test to check my cholesterol.  Why should I have my cholesterol checked and what do all these numbers mean anyway?

A. High cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease, so having your cholesterol levels checked is an important step in maintaining a healthy heart. Cholesterol is an important substance in your body that helps you stay healthy; however, when there is too much cholesterol in your blood you are more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. The desirable ranges of cholesterol can be different depending on whether you are a man or a woman, and whether you already have heart disease. Keep reading to learn more about this important preventive step in maintaining your health.
