Ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves that are reflected off internal tissues or organs to make an echo. The echo patterns are displayed on a television screen.

To learn more about ultrasound (sometimes called sonography), refer to the list below and choose the procedure that has been scheduled for you. Here you will find out what to expect during your ultrasound and how to prepare. You may also speak with your physician.

Depending on your procedure, you will go either to the Women's Pavilion in the Hill Health Center, the Cancer Center (across the street from the hospital), the 1st floor of the Medical Center or Milford Regional in the Blackstone Valley.  Your physician will direct you.

Pre-Registration

Patients should call to pre-register up to two weeks in advance for any scheduled surgical day and out-patient appointment including most diagnostic tests, lab work and pre-surgical testing. This eliminates the need to wait for an admissions representative upon arrival. Patients can go directly to their point of service. Admissions representatives are available to take calls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday.
