Maintaining Momentum – Fundraiser for Fresh Start Program

Three years ago, Michelle Bernard wouldn’t have dreamed of participating in a 5K run/walk, but today she is lacing up for one that she has organized to benefit the program that changed her life, and so many others.

Michelle Bernard had weight loss surgery in 2013 through Milford Regional Medical Center’s FreshStart Program, a decision that not only led to a physical transformation, but helped her form new habits as well, one of them being exercise.

Thankful for her new life and healthy lifestyle, Michelle has organized a 5K run/walk to support Milford Regional’s FreshStart, as well as support other weight loss patients as they start an exercise routine to maintain their new healthy lifestyle.

“We are all giving back because the fact is we wouldn’t be out here without the FreshStart Program,” Michelle said. “Without FreshStart, we would have never even thought about walking.”

Participants in the FreshStart 5K run/walk have had the weight loss surgery – some of them as recent as last week – and others are preparing to begin the FreshStart program.

The FreshStart Fun Run/Walk is this Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Bellingham High School Track 60 Blackstone Street, Bellingham. The event will be held rain or shine .

Participants can donate online at supportmilfordregional.org/freshstart5K or the day of the event. There is a $25 admission/participation fee. All proceeds go to Milford Regional’s FreshStart Surgical Weight Loss Program.

Participants will be happy to share their weight loss stories. Photographers and reporters are welcome the day of the event.
