Q and A
If you plan on walking through woods or high grass, there are a few things you can do to limit exposure to tick bites: wear long sleeves and long pants, use insect repellant with DEET, and inspect yourself (and pets) for ticks when you’re done. If you find a tick attached to your skin, remove it completely with tweezers and swab the bite area with rubbing alcohol.
The following symptoms may be early signs of Lyme disease and can appear 3-30 days after being bitten by an infected tick:
- Bulls-eye rash
- Joint & muscle aches/headache
- Flu-like illness
Prompt treatment during the early stages of the disease can prevent more serious problems down the road, so please call your doctor if you think you may have symptoms of Lyme disease.
