Physical Therapy (PT)

Physical therapy is designed to help patients develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout their life. Whether your movement and/or function is threatened by age, injury, disease or environmental factors, you can count on our physical therapists to provide personalized treatment that is both effective and compassionate. And it doesn’t matter how young or old you are because our physical therapists serve the orthopedic and neurological needs of all age groups. Plus, you’ll come to know your physical therapist well and visa versa because you’ll be cared for by the same physical therapist throughout your treatment!

Our services are also preventive, providing education and guidance before rather than after an injury. We give special attention to the prevention of injuries at home and in the workplace. This proactive care reduces the risk of sustaining future injuries and possible impairments. Upon entering our program, all patients (regardless of diagnosis) are screened for their risk of falling. We also perform wheelchair evaluations.

Our affiliation with both a world-class medical center and cancer center allow us to provide the following special services…

New Industrial Rehabilitation

In our newly expanded Franklin complex, we are now able to offer our patients an innovative, industrial conditioning area that contains a concrete floor, industrial shelving, built-in stairs, and equipment such as ladders, wheelbarrows, shovels and sleds. This therapy assists patients whose occupation might be an auto mechanic, construction worker, delivery worker, nurse, police officer or firefighter. The therapist will obtain your job description and will then evaluate how much bending, lifting, pushing and pulling you will need to be able to do in order to return to work. For example, if a patient is referred to us with a back problem, we might have them lift a five pound box and build that weight up until it meets the requirements of their job.

Breast Cancer/Lymphedema

Pre-operative and post-operative treatment/screenings. We are one of the few in the area that provides lymphatic therapy by certified therapists which includes compression, exercise and manual lymphatic drainage. We currently have 3 certified lymphedema therapists on our physical therapy staff to meet each patient’s individual needs.

Graston Technique®

Our physical therapists are specially trained in the Graston Technique; a relatively new treatment for soft tissue injuries. This procedure helps to detect and treat areas of scar tissue and adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments that can reduce range of motion and cause pain. It is used to treat many different types of injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, joint sprain, muscle strain, lower back pain, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and more.

The benefit of the Graston Technique® is not only the detection of the fibrous tissue, but the speed with which patients recover. Most patients have a positive response within two or three treatments. It decreases overall time of treatment, reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication and it can resolve some chronic conditions thought to be permanent.

Neurological Disorders

Therapists with advanced course work provide a multi-disciplinary, (PT, OT, Speech) comprehensive treatment for patients with a variety of neurological disorders. Milford Regional neurological clinicians keep us in tune with the patient’s medical management strategies.

Vestibular/Balance Issues

For those suffering from vertigo, dizziness, or balance/gait disorders, we consult with a patient’s physician to plan treatment with a goal to eliminate or improve symptoms and improve balance and gait.
